...thanks for the comment - it does all sound a bit familiar, doesn't it?
Still, it looks like the UN have taken us back from the edge for now. See next post, coming right up!
Cheers!

...looks like events have overtaken you on this one, mate - again! See my next post...
But to address your misinformed comment - you make the common error (or spin tactic) of taking the behaviour of the few and applying it to the many, and even to the government. People commit suicide in the US, too - that doesn't mean you're all suicidal!
There's been some horrendous incidents of the US bombing residential areas, markets, and even wedding parties in Iraq and elsewhere. To paraphrase you - Babies, old people,
doesn't matter to the American military.
Thanks for stopping by.

Iran doesn't want nuclear capability for peaceful purposes! It wants nuclear capability for weapons..to destory Israel. Not suicidal? Don't be stupid. They invented the suicide bombers with the exposives around the waist who insinuate themselves into pizza joints and blow themselves and scores of innocents to smithereens! Babies, old people, doesn't matter to the Islamic terrorists. We're all the enemy! You're asleep there, in Britain, secure in your smug self-righteousness, in denial over the Muslim outrage in your own underground when all those innocent people died. It'll happen again and I hope you're not there when it does!

Clear as a bell
Thanks Damon for this news. I've been watching US news and the move towards Iran and can't believe the rhetoric. Iran is just now seeking nuclear power, not weapons, that would take a decade or more to happen if at all--but understandable if the US doesn't change it's behavior towards muslim nations. I now see the writing on the wall and it's about oil, money, corporate greed and power on one hand, armeggedon, which god is better than the other god and who is willing to die for righteousness's insanity. I place my bet on the muslims--christians are too gooey about their faith and don't know what suffering is.

...a similar reason lay behind the Iraq debacle. Saddam was making overtures to some oil buyers about trading oil in euros, too, and the Americans didn't like it one little bit.
The Iranians have gone one step further.
I wonder what will happen if the Saudis try the same move? Or the Kuwaitis?
I wonder when our "leaders" will learn that every aggressive move is a step backwards, a step away from peace.
Thanks for stopping by.

...in an odd sort of way, we ARE the enemy.
The Muslim reaction today is, in parts, extreme and unforgivable BUT they are simply reacting and responding to the huge amount of wrong we have wrought on the Muslim years across the decades and centuries - particularly last century.
of course they're friggin' furious! So would you be! And now, not only are we preventing Iran from pursuing the nuclear power option (using technology supplied by the US, incidentally) but we're also using that as a very thing excuse to threaten them. And THEN we get all upset when they threaten us!
WHAT DID WE EXPECT? FOR THEM JUST TO ROLL OVER AN PLAY DEAD!
As for your contention that they "can't wait" to drop a bomb on Israel and New York - you just heard that on Faux News, didn't you? You haven't really thought that through, have you? Because if you had, you'd realise that the mullahs may be mad (in our eyes) but their not suicidal. They're as fully aware of the concept of mutually assured destruction (MAD) as the USA and USSR always were. They're out-gunned, and they know it.
On the other hand, they have a relationship with America that has been rough for a long time - certainly since the CIA staged a coup to take out a democratically elected government in Iran and install the Shah, and right up to the decade when the US funded and armed Saddam Hussein (before he became evil, presumably) to create death and mayhem among the Iranian people. This might have them thinking that, given recent events in Irqaq, they could use a deterrent.
It's all about ancient chickens coming home to roost, Burly. By referring to a country - an entire nation - as 'evil', you and your dim-witted "leader" are simply resorting to meaningless, excitable rhetoric.
Thanks for reading, dude.

...thanks for that article - very interesting!
I can hardly believe we're gearing up for yet another illegal invasion or bombing campaign.
What sort of a world are we creating for my little boy and his generation? Will there even be a world left for him?

...you appear to have the wrong end of this particular stick!
I'm not suggesting for one moment here that we have to stop using oil. That's something we're clearly incapable of doing until we have to - and we'll have to when it reaches $240 a barrel. But that's a supply / climate change debate, and belongs in my other blog - Making Free Marketeers Angry.
Here, the arguement is that the US "administration" is, once again, sabre-rattling over supposed WMDs, support of terrorism, imminent threats, and yada yada yada - we've been here before.
And, just like before, it's all a smokescreen for an entirely different issue. Iran is no danger to the US (unless Iran is attacked) in a military or even terrorist sense. As I keep coming back to - 19 guys flew those planes into buildings, none of them were Iraqis, none of them were Iranians, none of them were Afghans, most of them were Saudis, and Saudi is still a preferred trading partner of the US. Mixed messages, anyone?
However, Iran is a danger to the petro-dollar if she starts selling her crude in euros. If America is prepared to go to war (again) for the sake of money (again) then at least be good enough to admit it, to come clean, rather than starting on all this WMD bullshit again.
From a wider perspective, Iran is an oil-rich Muslim nation, just like Iraq. America is the largest oil consumer in the world (6% of the population of the world using 23% of oil supplies). To secure oil supplies, America COULD get the hell out of Muslim lands, accept that oil in Muslim lands is under Muslim control, stop building military bases, stop bombing Muslim families, stop supplying cash and weapons to Israel in tacit approval of the suppression of Palestinians, and make an effort to get along with the Muslim world. We're not THAT different, fer chrissakes!
Alas, America is a young nation behaving like a troubled teenager, and is choosing instead to stomp around, throwing hissy fits and bashing anyone she doesn't like in order to get her own way. Instead of a flexible, understanding, compassionate approach - and hey - let's not knock it until we've tried it, huh? - America is choosing a vicious, uncompromising, greedy and militaristic approach that is winding the rest of the world up - Muslim and non-Muslim alike - to the point where every shred of the massive amount of sympathy after 9/11 has completely dissipated.
Thanks for reading.

That would spook the Anglo-American oligarchs, indeed!

I assume you also approve of Iran's embrace of Al Quaeda and its financing of terrorism worldwide, including its financial and material support of the terrorist organization Hezbollah which it actually created. Iran is an evil and malevolent force in the world which would like nothing better than to drop a nuclear bomb on Israel! Better yet, one on New York and that's not too far fetched! We've already lost 3000 souls to Islamic terrorism because people like you have taken up the wrong cause. We're not the enemy but you seem to think we are!!

Thought inducing piece Damon
Complex agendas. I'm not sure what to believe but I do know the times are a gettin' crazier. And more frightening. I also know that we are still in denial stages about our oil addiction. SUVS dominate the roads in my neck of the woods and I discovered recently that the federal tax cuts for small businesses buying these gas guzzlers is at least triple the amount of cuts for purchasing a hybrid vehicle...something wrong with this picture? Big Oil and their big power refused and continues to refuse any real efforts to change direction.
On Iran - I found this article that offers a different perspective (none the less chilling however) on the reasons for this next mad rush to destruction.

DL,
Why is the debate about oil of any importance? Rather than argue about it, I'll just agree with you that it is. So what?
The world economy is dependent upon petroleum and petroleum products. It simply is not possible to suddenly cut off that dependency. If the petroleum products suddenly disappeared from your computer, a tangle of metal would fall into a heap on your desk, assuming that your desk still had a top to fall upon. Would you jump into your car, gas it up, and go buy another computer, one in a wood box? Will there be time to make wood wheels to replace your tires? Will you buy it with a wooden credit card? It wouldn't make any difference, even if you got a computer. There will be no electricity. All of the plastic will have disappeared from wire insulations, and everything will have shorted out.
I suppose we could all move back into caves, as long as we didn't take any tools that had plastic handles. Do you think that sheep will be able to supply enough wool to replace the plastic based fibers that are used in our clothing? No teflon skillets allowed. What are the soles of your shoes made of? Is there any plastic in glasses that you wear?
Oh well. I guess we will just have to make a few minor changes to our lifestyles. Anything to stop using that Evil Petroleum.
