My university had the cliche quote
"Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make ye free" on the main building beneath the tower where in the 60s some guy shot a bunch of people. Anybody who thinks this speech is unAmerican is a little like McCarthy. They will never know the truth and they wish to keep the rest of us from being free. Thanks for the transcript. Good stuff!!! It's what free speech (Amendment One for those in the Bush Administration who've forgotten which one it is) ensures.

sarooster, lets see about geography
Iraq is a place
Afghanistan is a place
the Arab world occupies many places.
the World Trade Center was a place.
that is geography.
but also, the teacher was uupset about Bush's State of the Union Address, with all the usual sound bites without substance.
and he was trying to make kids think rather than be so totally absorbed in their own narrow world.
we have a choice
encourage independent thought
or become voiceless automatons that swallow the government line hook. line and sinker.
what do we want
an active Democracy
or
a passive oligarchy, which is what it is now with the Bush Administration.

Well, the guy was teaching a Geography class to start off with.
If he is interested in making political statements he needs to teach political science!
