Taps, I am grateful and proud to say that I'm related
to some of those delightful, wonderful young people (as, I would imagine, are you!).

Maine-iac, it's past my bedtime, I'm too lazy to look it up. . . .

would that be the verse "the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked"?  If so I think you have certainly hit the nail on the head.  We are all capable of doing these heinous acts, no matter how good we normally are.  Each one of us has the capacity to murder or hurt another person.

Thanks for your comments.  I would say you are very correct.

Janes O
I can't believe that in all of the responses no one has yet fingered the real cause for the increasing brutality and violence.   The Old Testament prophet, Jeremiah, said it very well in Jeremiah 17:9.
All of the suggested causes for our world of hate and hurt are really symptoms of the real problem of the human heart.  Until people realize this and correct the real problem it will only worsen.  see Jeremiah 17:9
Thanks and God Bless.....

It has always been with us.   It is more obvious and more prevalent because there are more people.and there are video cameras everywhere to catch the bad things as they happen and almost immediately share them with the public by airing on TV and computer news.   All the things mentioned in the comments have helped our young people to be more efficient and creative in their evil desires.    But, just as there is more evil going on, there are also many, many wonderful, caring and helpful young people who are horrified by the things of which you speak.

Dr some good observations. We adults are so busy and

stressed with life, we just don't have or take the time to properly rear and socialize our kids and teach them good morals and right from wrong and and and.

Thanks for stopping by!

I Think it Has to do With the Beak Down of the Home and Family Values
Parents often do not take the same time as in the past to teach children manners, social skills, and what I call basic "home training".  Many parents are guilt ridden, permissive, and attempt to do whatever is necessary to keep the child quiet and out of their way and sight.  This gives more time for the parent to be self absorbed.  Children then raise themselves, take on values from TV, books, games, (as mentioned by others), peers and develop and abnormal sense of self.  They become menaces to society and want to inflict the pain and hurt they carry from day to day to others, for hurting people, hurt people.  This is my opinion!  Thought provoking post!

Offbeats, it does make one wonder if we're raising a generation of

sociopaths.  That these teens could cold heartedly do this is beyond me.

Thanks for stopping by!

I think that is one of the most disgusting things I have ever heard of. It's very sad, our homeless are so vulnerable...I know some of them could do something with their life, but that isn't the point here. The point is the total lack of compassion by these savages who took it upon themselves to take an innocent life. They probably did it because they could which makes them cold blooded murderes! I hope they find them and lock them up and then throw away the keys!

JanesOpinion -- I feel that you and Corbin Dallas have hit on something
Since the inception of TV and in the movie theatres as well, our societies have been subjected to "comic book violence" and the glorification of violent acts. Violence where there are no apparent repercussions and where victims get up,  magically dust themselves off and walk away unscathed. Where our generations survived The Three Stooges, Tom and Jerry and all other kinds of comic book or slapstick violence, our populaces are now exposed the Supranos or Video games that make performing criminal acts the contest. The bad guys are glorified to a greater extent these days and even envied by some, our senses collectively have become dulled to the "Ultra Violence", a phrase coined in the early 70's from the movie A Clockwork Orange. A movie that graphically depicts the beating of a homeless person and coincedently has become a cult classic amongst today's young people. . . or maybe not so coincedently?

Corbin, I wondered that, too.
As well, I wondered if some of this could be attributed to gansta rap (or whatever the heck it's called).  Listen to that foul noise for long enough and I would imagine it would do a fine job of polluting kids' minds.
