I don't really think this is a matter of politics per se.
The guy needs to teach the subject he is, and hopefully was, paid to teach. It's a pretty simple thing in my book. Thanks for the read though.
The students better learn to follow the right path in life. Supporting a favorite teacher who is right is one thing. Lending support to someone who is wrong shows a lot about the path many of them will take.
