tourists =
the summer people who clog up the restaurants at the Jersey Shore so that the locals have to wait a looong time to be seated...

straightforward, how odd? I have never had to worrry about the
bad side of tourists. We have few in small towns, even though ours is a tourist town, they are from the USA for the most part. We have to worry about them staying more than anything. LOL

I live in NYC
and they're all around.  But, they contribute greatly to the economy and keep a lot of our arts and museums in good fiscal shape, so windbreakers and tennis shoes aside, they're an ok lot.

When i think of tourist i think of someone out on a journey..to whom i can show my world and from whom i can learn about distant lands...the currency & color..and all that are too small to be noticed at all.

SF
I find them interesting, and like finding out things from them about their own environment.

I think of ...

an "easy mark".  Someone whose ignorance of the local customs and culture can easily be manipulated for fun and/or profit.

At least, that's how I feel when my extended family visits from Russia.
