A very thought provoking post...
poetjpb. Christ set a very good example for us to follow but sadly not enough of us follow it. Showing kindness and helping take care of those less fortunate should be a priority with everyone. If we did that this world would be a much better place. Thank you for reminding us of what is important.
Here is a haiku I wrote awhile back that follows the theme of Lent....
On the day of rest the priest chants a holy verse incense fills the air

Although I'm not religious, I can see the significance of fasting and self-denial. There are indeed so many who are impoverished, who are thankful for what little they get from the kindness of others.
You never know when a decision to help one person may make a world of difference.

Lent last through Easter, there are two ways to do Lent:
Since Jesus was in the wilderness for 40 days, then you simply observe Lent Monday - Saturday, Sunday's are free. The other way is that you actually observe Lent every day from Ash Wednesday to Easter which is 47 days -- the choice is yours, and of course your church's!

One way to begin is to give up soft drinks, and drink juices.
That seems to soften the blow!
