He's pretty old...maybe you could get him to write you into his will.  Then, if things don't go right he will feel guilty and leave you shitloads of money.  It's kinda like Anna Nicole...

That sounds like a crazy experience!  If I were you, I would make sure the geologist knows his stuff...  I know the skeletal essentials about finding oil, because I minored in geology, but I'm no expert!  I know enough that if the geologist isn't real sharp, you can come up empty.  And core samples are very, very expensive.
