Ginnie!
I can't believe he would say that to you... he should have said "To make you look even MORE youthful!" lol I remember a lot of stuff from my very early childhood - but there is a big chunk from my early school days that I don't remember at all...

Very interesting about your Mom's native friend Mer...
...a tangible symbol of sorrow I suppose. You have a great memory if you can go back to when you were three! I don't think you should cut your hair too much right now Mer...if you are feeling emotional at all you may regret it and that would only make you feel worse! I was told, by a hairdresser in England, that I should cut mine shorter to look younger...cheeky devil!

Thank God you haven't left!
I loved this story!
About cutting your hair to correspond to events in your life.... I do that, I didn't realize it was so tied up in the bad things in my life until a few years ago. I have cut my hair off after being assaulted, raped and things like that! It is the most acceptable form of self-destruction.

Lucy,
it was that tribe's tradition - I don't know how many others have the same one.

MER
At first I thought you were going to say it was the braids of her husband. I bet it was pretty none the less!
And Mer...I don't blame you for keeping your hair long. I always feel mekkid" when mine is too short. I got 4 inches cut off a couple months back and it still feels short. Who knows why we hold on to it.
I love this story, I just didn't know it was their tradition!!
