The winter festival was a wash out.  There was 17 inches of ice on the small river but with 3 inches of water on top of it, there was no skating or other ice games.  No snow for the slides which had been made and, as you say, FF, it was a complete bummer.

The snow will come, Blanche.  In fact this week's forecast is showing the cold returning to -15C, and the snow can't be far behind.  I like your comment about 'the young ignore us'.  I hadn't thought of it that way. The lost generation.

I agree...I want winter too!
That is truly a bummer that the winter festival has been turned into a spring festival...it is just not right...

JohnMcnab,
I seem to remember a Monty Python skit to that effect, "When I was a whippersnapper, we lived in the middle of the lake, had not shoes, etc. etc."  The old like to think we had it worse and the young ignore us.  It was ever thus.  Sorry about your lack of snow.

Blanche
Do you think it was always thus?  The old ones telling us youngsters that when they were kids they had to battle 50 foot drifts and minus 200C?   Today was unusual inasmuch as the temp was only +5 and there was no snow for the kids to slide on or ice for them to skate on.

JohnMcNab,
I like the image of 700 beer-drinking people jumping into holes in the ice.  I can see why you're disappointed.  We've had winds knocking down the power lines, a little extreme here for Seattle.  The flooding in the colorfully named rivers (whose names like "Skykomish" I can never remember) is typical.  However, typical is not what you want if you live there, I"m sure.

Whacky
I know what you mean, Whacky.  Too hot is sticky and sweaty, not to mention yucky.

Taps
You mean everybody knows I add a touch of fantasy and hyperbole?  Gasp, Taps!  I am undone!

Taps
It isn't that bad, Taps.  You know me, I tend to embellish things - very slightly.

We are taking the camera, smartdog.  The only thing is that we don't know if it will withstand the torrential rain - still, it will make another post.

I wouldn't be sure about that, MA.  The way things are going weather-wise around the world, it might be -40C in August.

ginnie
What do you think of the east winds blowing in from the North Sea, ginnie?  I remember them slicing me in two, but then, being a Canadian, it will probably feel like summer time to you.

Our winter is also way off.. It was 62 degrees today and a week ago they were telling us to look for snow this week-end.  I hope that you and Ell will enjoy tomorrow.

I agree John
this winter has sucked. Rachel's new ice skates are still in the box and I fear they will be Emily's skates before Rachel even has a chance to try them on :-(

Eh??
I'll be nice in your country, if you're nice in mine k?  It's a bloody useless winter all around..although there was a nice frost in St Andrew's the other day.  Ah...I remember the days and the photos when I was a child and it was nothing to have waist-deep snow all winter long.  Even when my kids were young they could always count on outdoor skating rinks for at least three months a year.  What's happening??  Hope you don't fall in!
