I Have...
...a real issue with people trying to compare the Iraq shambles with WWII.
WWII was not nearly as noble a cause as the history books tell us - war is not noble! - but it happened as a result of a fascist country invading another soveriegn land without any provocation and without any excuse of self-defense. We responded to that act of aggression, and rightly so.
In this case, America is close to being a fascist country; it invaded another soveriegn land without any provocation and without any excuse of self-defense; and the Muslim world is rerponding, as any thinking person would have expected. It was about short-term political gain. It was about revenge. And, yes, it was about oil.
War is never noble, but this one is a nasty little business venture by a nasty little failed oil man a bunch of nasty henchmen.
And yes, the cost is astronomical.

actually , Jack, I do have some thoughts
and will eventually expose them to the light of comment.
and of course criticism
but WWII was necessary -- and it did just the opposite of this war -- it brought our economy up -- it had a lot to do with bringing us out of the Great Depression.

I won't disagree with you that the war is bringing us down and costing a fortune. So did WWII. Perhaps the Middle East should be approached in a totally different way. Any suggestions?
