i was sucked into several of those events on post when my husband was a military officer and our family lived at Ft. Polk, Louisiana. Had a garage sale a couple of years later after we moved to another post and couldn't give the stuff away. At the time, it was the pc thing to do... it was usually the Capt.'s wife or the the Platoon leader's wife or the Chaplain's wife or the head of the Red Cross Volunteer Wife's Corp Dir. or some other wife like the Daisy Scout leader ( I was asst. leader)... it does get very old indeed. I'm so glad that's all ancient history now.
