People...
...this is just different, y'know?
I used to live in South Korea, and they eat dog there, too. It's a delicacy, and an very expensive one at that.
I, too, am a dog lover, but I'm also vegetarian, so I see all sentient beings as having an equal right to life and dignity.
It's a pity all those railing against 'cruel' dog-killing practices in the Far East can't be persuaded to get equally riled up about cows, chickens, pigs and sheep.
I guess they're just not loveable enough. They don't fetch sticks, either.

Your posts mostly stimulate me into reaction, but this one is an eye opener
I knew that the chinese eat dogs but not on this scale. For this I hate their society like never before, yet I still like my Chinese dog park lady friend.
Here in Vancouver we have a large chinese population. There are several curious behaviors that i have noticed.
One is their blatant fear of dogs, making a theatrical show of it. This must be one way to justify dining on dogs.
The other relates to their senses of space and movement on the sidewalks and driving.
The chinese have no regard for right of way and will walk ahead confidently while intently window shopping. I used to think that it was due to a social experience involving large masses. They will also drive that way and have a poor driving record. their children die often while street racing in expensive cars here. Last friday we lost three more in a horrible street racing accident.
I have since seen something more sinister in these habits. Could it be that they are selfish and self involved. I have yet to raise a single cent from a chinese person for charity. The word from the beggars here is that the Chinese never give anything to them.
If I were a betting man, I'd say the George W. is missing the boat focussing on the middle east as the next threat to America. As if Iran with a nuke would challenge you with ten thousand nukes. All deliverable at the push of a button. I don't see how a thinking man would fear such a thing.
I think chickenshit George is again picking on the little guy that he can browbeat, whipping up fear to enhance his ratings, while slinking away from the real threat.
Again I say that the google give-in to Chinese demands is an affront to the pursuit of global freedom and show the real ethical bankruptcy of your movers and shakers..
Thanks for this information and count me onboard with your sentiments.

Lets keep in mind that our meat industry only stuns an animal before
cutting its throat. A beating heart helps pump out the blood faster. As for the beating..I've heard cultures that eat monkey brains do the same thing for the flavor of the adrenaline.

Corbin,
It is a sad and horrible thing to kill an animal so inhumanely. There are a lot of things that happen in China that I would hope would never be tolerated here: painful slaughter of dogs, government censorship, government either demanding its citizens limit thier birthrates by forced abortions, surveillance and jailing political dissidents without trials.
We can't stop the Chinese from killing dogs on their own soil, but we can stop from turning into a totalitarian state like China.

This is sad. The Chinese won't give an inch on something like this.
A society that does not value such a loyal and friendly creature is a society that is rotten to the core. I have never like the Chinese and I never will.

Eeeeewwwwww gross.
I cannot imagine my darling mutt being slaughtered in such a fashion. Of course, they would never use her because she's so old, I'm sure the meat would be tough.
How awful. And yes, I'm siding with the Frenchies on this one.

Corbin,
CNN did a story on this about a month ago and I did a post. The post was mostly about how the Chinese immigrants were doing the same thing here in America. We had two Asian restaurants here in town caught serving both dog and cat a few years back. A bill is suppose to be up at congress to ship out any immigrant caught killing animals for food here.
