Muser...
...now, the Divine Spark is an idea I can relate to!

And thanks for the advice on blinking! I'm already trying to engineer my life so I can spend more time with him. Time is our only non-renewable commodity, after all (and isn't it amazing how cheaply many of us are expected to sell it for?)

Thanks for reading.

When I study a newborn I see a miracle, and I feel deep within myself that
same mark of the Divine that I see in this new creation. Congratulations! Don't blink too much; you'll find that time starts to accelerate with the birth of a child; before you're ready, you'll find yourself sitting at a graduation... and wondering where the years went...

JanesOpinion...
...er, you've got me confused.

Hocus pocus? Illogical? But then you go on to back up my thoughts! "Infants were created with these reflexes as protective mechanisms, until their brains could mature enough..." Exactly! And when do you suppose these protective reflexes were developed? Certainly a few hundred thousand years ago, if not a million. And why were they developed? Because we were being born into dangerous, wild times.

Unless you think the reflexes came about during the Blitz of WWII?

Thanks for reading.

Pat B...
...I'm sure it's easy to run into those sorts of attitudes you found in your tale of the young girl. No kids of her own, huh? That would explain a lot!

I LOVE the imagery you create in the second part of your comment. I could get lost in those thoughts for hours...if I didn't have a Selfish Sam to think about!!

Thank you, Pat.

PassionFlower...
...thanks for the comments.

I agree with your first - many assume that children come here to learn. In fact, they come here to teach. And I feel I've already learnt tons from Sam.

I can't agree with the second. I'm no atheist, but in my reality map, the one I look up to is the Great Spirit, or the Universe. That could just be a difference of labels, of course. However, Spirit would never claim to have 'created' Sam. We did that, T and I, with a helping hand from all our ancestors down through the ages.

Thanks again!

Make the most of it -before you know where the time has gone your
magic child will be whisked away and replaced by a stroppy adolescent.

Sorry Damon, but I'm with Passionflower on this.

Looking at an infant does not make me look back through the mists of time to see what life was like a million years ago.  In fact, I hate to say this, but your comments rather reek of hocus pocus of some illogical sort.  Infants were created with these reflexes as protective mechanisms, until their brains could mature enough to provide the necessary protection.

Glad you're enjoying Sam.  I'm sure he's a very handsome little guy.

I once wrote a poem about baby behavior for a class

in which I used the words "totally selfish." Which is how babies are, it's how they survive, screaming for what they want no matter how busy or otherwise involved their parents may be. Another girl, one who had no kids, apparently, was highly insulted, "how could you?" she demanded.  She actually flounced away from me (difficult to do while remaining in her desk), and refused to listen to my experience with infants as a basis for my premise. I guess she thinks totally selfish is a bad thing... :)

And yes, watching your child links you to the primitive past -- sometimes you wonder where their spirits have been and what their habitat was like before they moved into the physicality of the womb, what webs, alternate universes, other dimensions still linger until language forms in this one.

Hi, I also wanted to say that we each SEE whatever we want to...

And have trained ourselves to see.

When I see a new born baby, I give thanks to God for such an amazing organism...an accomplishment that only He, in his infinite wisdom and intelligence,  would have the ability to create.

Congrats on the new baby--They are amazing...
The Bible says that if you'll allow it, raising a child will teach you how to be a better person..

    I Laugh...
...out loud a lot when I read you, Mark.

Then I suddenly bring myself up short, and I think - Maybe he's being serious...

    Thanks for reading, bud!

I still have that Moro Reflex.
When I hear a sudden knock at the front door I immediately scream and wet myself.  I gotta get a doorbell....
