Good point, ms_bradrock, but I submit it is the fault of a Republican
Congress and a worthless president who will make a covenant, set new standards, and then not support their own programs.  I don't, nor will I ever, believe that the education system's failures reside in its financial woes, but those same woes are an increased burden.  It is incumbent upon the parents and teachers in a community to educate their children, to instill in them the importance of learning, to train them to be constructive and productive.  It is incumbent upon a government of, by, and for the people to facilitate the process, not pay lip service to it.

I remember a time not so long ago
when a President didn't have to mandate No Child Left Behind.  It was already in the hearts of the educators. We can argue back and forth all day that this is the fault of the President or the Republican Congress, but in the end if schools are not striving for excellence then children are going to be left behind and the amount of money in their budgets isn't going to make the slightest difference...
