The Laramie situation
There's a play that has been touring about the Laramie gay-bashing (murdering), and my school put it on. It was very moving... Thanks for the info. Those TVC people sound scary. I'm glad I live in Canada where same-sex marriage is now legal.

I'm definitely for the hate crimes legislation. I believe the definition of a hate crime is pretty clear. I was not trying to make a strong argument for or against the legislation, but simply record what has happened, and who the main enemies of hate crime legislation are.

I meant poster child for the right's rancor. Originally I called him the "anti-poster child". Thanks for your accuracy.

Oh, and BTW
Teddy Kennedy isn't the poster child for the "right." I think he's consistently been liberal in his political action, if not in his personal life, and I'm sensing that you meant "left." :)

Please, Hem, a little more clarity...
Are you for the hate crimes legislation or against it? I get the sense that your passion about this issue has mixed your logical syntax a bit and I'm uncertain about your position... :)pat

Because they never are proven wrong. They can do no wrong. Only smarmy liberals do wrong by having the wrong ideas and the wrong solutions. Thus, everything based on those can be nothing else but wrong. I don't want to get that involved, but I'm quite sure our right wing bloggers are now putting their best positive spin on the Jack Abramoff scandal, and the corrupt political environment that spawns "entrepreneurs" such as he. During the Cold War, the media routinely talked about corruption in other countries, as if it were something that did not exist in ours.

The issue is quite clear: zero tolerance for homosexuality, and enmity for anyone who doesn't believe that way.

Good question. I think our "civilization" must evolve, or no amount of "rule of law" will stop hatred.

Please help me out here....what is the direction you were heading with this post? Is it about the furor over the appointment of Kennedy's aide.......or the need for additional hate crime legislation?

A Hate Crime is a Hate Crime!
Name calling and physical violence because of differences has no place! I do not agree with certain behaviors, yet there are ways to handle. What's the answer?????

Also, is there a hue and cry over ridding the Administration of Dick Cheney
and his very openly gay, and politically active daughter, Mary?

Hemlocker,
Did the RRW (Radical Right Wing) fail to mention the gay escort, whose name I don't remember, hired as a stringer in the White House Press Corp to lob softball questions for Pres. Bush. Politics make strange bedfellows, indeed!
