A scientific public opinion poll...
fairly recently indicated that, all but one of the issues asked about, more people gave Mr. Bush a "fair/poor" rating than an "excellent/good" rating.
The only issue on which he enjoyed broad public support was the "war on terror", which 48 percent approved of and 49 percent disapproved of his handling of it; or it may have been the other way around, not that it makes much difference.
What's remarkable is that so many people still see through the brilliant propaganda of the administration.
What was more interesting even that these numbers were the numbers on the environment and Kyoto Treaty. The vast majority of respondents (over 60%) agreed with the statement, "We should do whatever it takes to protect the environment, regardless of the economic cost," and a solid majority said that the U.S. should have ratified the Kyoto Treaty.
Which is to say, if the American people had decided the issue, the United States would now be signed on to the Kyoto Protocol. Not that this would have made such a huge difference, but what a far cry it is from the actual policy of the United States.
