The key phrase was indeed "ought to know better." I, too, am amazed at the number of people who "ought to know better" but don't. Without discounting the legitimate complaints of those who have been abused - who are actually "abuse-bashing" rather than "male-bashing" - I dislike hearing from women not living in abusive situations who can't say one good word about faithful life partners who bring home their fair share of the family bacon.

I am constantly amazed...
by the number of people who "ought to know better" but don't. Common sense in a rarity indeed these days.
