Temple, in a way you and I are so much alike. I too live in and on my bed alot, surrounded by books and computer. My couch is actually a futon, which becomes a bed when my boys arrive.

Medusa - thank you! You don't really need a man - you are such a creative, resourceful person!

Don't feel bad, love....
I have a rental, my computer is STILL sick.  I don't have a couch, I STILL have big floor pillows...that I never sit on because I have boxes of books in my living room that I have no storage for, so I'm always in my room, on my bed.  We're all a work in progress.  Once you learn to accept that, it's all good.

Hey Cas -
Money sucks doesn't it?  Sorry about the comp, although I like things with a little character.  Dell has some sub 500 computers right now, you might want to check them out.

my laptop is pretty much history
unless i want to spend a thousand bucks for a new board.  For that much i'd get a new one.  I am lucky the uni where i work provides laptops to all students, faculty and full-time staff.  They kind of suck, but they do work.

My, My, Cass......I feel for you and your last leg lap-top...
I need men to fix those kinds of things, haha...I, too, am still on dial-up....I will keep my fingers crossed that you get a new computer in 2006. How's that?

posted by MedusaNextDoor on December 28, 2005 at 4:39 PM | link to this | reply

May, I actually hadn't thought of that. I will keep my eyes open for competitions, even though I never win anything!

posted by Ca88andra on December 28, 2005 at 3:24 PM | link to this | reply

I wish you could win a new computer
Of course to do that you need to enter a few prize draws. I agree you could go get the cord. You don't want to  lose something you've  worked hard over for the sake of a cord.  Life is very odd sometimes. We just won something that is a total luxury and while I am enjoying it I can't help feeling as if it's frivolous

muser, I went to a friends place for dinner last night and we were talking about the same. We came to the conclusion that women just know how to be creative and "make do" with what they have at hand. Its a female thing!

littlems - I am kind!

MsVision - believe it or not a friend gave me a spare phone cord last night, so one of the two problems is fixed!

Passionflower - that is cheap! The best price we can get for a new one is about $1000, that would be about $1800US.

Ca88andra, At least you seem to know it well and are able to make it work for you inspite of its idiocyncracies.   I hope it holds together until........

I HAVE HAD TO DO THE SAME KIND OF "REPAIRS", Ca88andra...
I would say your laptop is being "held together on a wing and a prayer"!  Your creative approach to this problem once again proves, "Necessity is the mother of invention."!

Just be kind to the computer and it'll last that bit longer!

I would be lost without my computer too
Please at least buy a new cord. I always forget things like that at the shops. Write a list or make a special trip. It will be worth it.

Ca88andra,
I hope some windfall comes your way to replace your laptop!

I think you should start searching for a really excellent deal
On a new computer. The desk top models now are under $500 here in the USA. A good used one might only be $300 USD.

Ca88i, I suggest that "we-know-who" send you her old one. Hey! Good idea!

Hemlocker - I need a computer genius in the family too! Now, if only my sons were old enough to marry...

Maybe you could get a second hand one?

ca88andra--
Technology is so wonderful and so maddening for the unwashed masses who are not cyber-experts.  I'm basically one of the masses in that regard, but fortunately I have a techno-wizard in the family--my son-in-law, the computer engineer.

jollyjeff - the problem is that its not a good look rocking up to the library with pjs on and carrying ones breakfast! I might have to sit on the floor, but at least I don't have to get dressed or put make up on! lol

posted by Ca88andra on December 27, 2005 at 2:42 PM | link to this | reply

If you have a library near you
You may be able to use the computer there. That's what I do.
