Thanks Malcolm.

I'd be absolutely over the moon about getting so much holiday. As it is, the 4 days I'll have off feel like heaven. I woudn't know what to do with myself if we closed until next year. In Jamaica, factories do that but by giving the staff what is called automatic leave which forms part of their vacation time.  Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and all that's good for the new year.

Holidays in Britain

We're having longer and longer holidays here! Many businesses closed on Friday 23rd and won't open again until Tuesdy 3rd January. I think the cost and hassle of opening up between Christmas and New Year became too much - or maybe we're just all getting a bit lazy?

Have a great Christmas, from one island to another.

Word - that was funny! Fancy nearly running down a chicken cart. We have Boxing Day off here too - it must be a legacy from the British that settled here. Merry Christmas!

It must be hard.
I wonder if all the people who work in retail businesses aren't so exhausted that they can't even enjoy Christmas when it comes.

Word.smith,
It's partly why I'm online right now.  I'm home and he's working, he got called in for 2 extra hours in the mall. I hope it won't always be like this.  It's hard on him.

Blanche,

On this island, sometimes it seems like everybody is a law unto themselves.  When odd things happen, all I can say in 'only in Jamaica'.

I pity the poor souls who won't have any holidays. That would depress me no end. I do agree that too many are slaving away, slowly killing themselves just to earn well needed funds.

Wod.smith,
If you can smile and shake your head when you've just narrowly missed hitting a chicken cart, you must be in a good mood.  My boyfrend has to "make up" the 2 days for Christmas and New Year's at his sales job here in the good ol' US,  those who are working aee working themselves to death, more hours every year.  It's getting Dickensian.  Next thing you know we'll bring back debtor's prisons.

HG, I hope you enjoy the season as best you can.
I'll be thinking of you.

Happy Holidays to you!

Telly,
I'd hate having to work on Christmas day. I suppose those who do have to just deal with it.

Offbeats, it's not done at all here on the island.

Wow I want to expand my holiday too!  Oh well, I already have a little more time off than a lot of people do.

I'm lucky, I don't have to be anywhere til wednesday's therapy session, but poor J has to work tonight (12 hours - 7 to 7) and then again on Christmas, so we're not doing much. I feel rather bad that we're going to miss the family get together down in the City, but we'll try to go and see them before too much more time passes.

Tapsel,

It would be a good thing to really celebrate boxing day as we're meant to - for now we give in church and it is parcelled out and given away before Christmas.

Now that's a funny image, except my husband wouldn't be laughing.

Maybe they're not loading properly or something and they're only smileys.

Offbeats,

If you click this link it will tell you, but it's the day after Christmas and it used to be that those who had, gave to those who didn't have on the day after Christmas. The holiday continues, but in Jamaica it's not observed as a day of giving. It's just another holiday.

word.smith, I don't know many who celebrate boxing day but I have always thought it would be fun to do that on a special day.    A Collision with jerk chicken?  That would be something.   What are the pictures?  I only got red x's in little boxes.
