Scoop . . .
We are losing daily because too many Americans value safety over liberty. Once we lose liberty, nothing will keep us safe. We are become a nation of wusses.

It is a tough job to balance both but since 9/11
it seems the the U.S. citizens have to jump through hoops while immigration and our borders remain a farce. The Bill of Rights and the Constitution are being trampled on. Maybe things in Iraq are better for them but for the U.S. citizen it has cost us billions, lives and cut in our freedoms, what have we gained?

you are right
if, in the process of fighting terrorism, etc, we lose our liberties, then we have also lost America, that which our government says we are defending.
Not only have the terrorists then won, but everything that our brave men and women have fought and died for has been lost and their efforts have come to nought.
i'll put this in a post.

It is a tough job . . . .
But we are in danger because our leadership, i.e., Congress and the President, have forgotten the foundations of our nation. They are willing to give up citizens' rights for safety. Anyone remember the famous quote regarding freedom vs. safety?

We need to protect America's core principles (ie.. basic rights of the people) while protecting our soil. It is a tough job.

I have nothing to hide, but I certainly do not want the government or anyone else prying into my private affairs. Only a coward would trade liberty for safety.

"A little public safety" by suspending Constitutional principles
Excellent post. You make a good point here about the need to defend the principles this nation was founded on rather than destroy them under the pretext of "national security."
All tyrannys began with the rationalization that they were trying to protect the people.
We have a rule of law in this country -- or we are supposed to have one -- and it's checks and balances are not a danger to anyone other than would-be tyrants.

A thought
If you have nothing to hide, and the law allows one person to be safer, then what's wrong with a little added safety?
