first thanks
i expected both of you to comment thusly -- others are informed as well as I.
I think we need to look at the holiday truthfully.
I think it's a fun holiday -- and I personally like the idea of recognizing natural cycles. - paying more attention to the solstices and equinoxes and certain celebrations surrounding.

Christmas and the Sun

Quite right!  This was a cult that had widespread appeal.  A little further north, barbarians were celebrating the birth of the sun as the days began to get longer after the winter solstice.
