not bad for a first try
here's a few hints. It's good your navigation is on the left and fairly consistent throughout the site. You can get rid of the "Home" link on top by moving your top banner over to the left and linking it the Home page. Also, to make your nav bar stand out, you should make the backgroung a different color or add a border. anything to show a visitor they need to look over there to move around.
