Temple - you have said it all! Fear, inability to accept, etc etc etc. Its just a sad state of affairs.

It seems there is always more violence.
Wow, I am so behind....on you, on here....I haven't even been watching the news.  I just wrote in another comment that there will never be peace until there is acceptance.  And, the sad thing is that I don't know if we have the capacity to just accept people, rather than control them.  People fear what they are ignorant of, yet they will not educate themselves or open themselves up to knew things...which could bring acceptance.  I don't know why, but what we are doing in the States and in the world is not working.  I fear it will only get worse.  I'm sorry to see what is happening there.  I saw clips of it on something I had taped weeks ago (I accidentally taped CNN, like a dork).

wordsmith - after all this time you would think that humans would have learnt alot more than what they have!

Somehow, I did not hear
about these happenings. It seems that it is something that is becoming more and more common worldwide. You are right, parents do have a responsibility to teach their children tolerance.  You'd think that after occupying the earth for so long, human beings would learn how to get along with each other peacefully.

malcolm - I've been reading all the reports I can on this and have discovered things I never knew before. Apparently here in Melbourne we are all much more integrated and accepting of multiculturalism, while Sydney still has its problems.

Maggie, we are not new to violence, but never before on this scale and for so long.

Original - it is a shame.

Offbeats, it seems the trouble has been long running and has only now come to a violent head. By the sounds of the reports I've been reading, it is not going to end any time soon. There is too much history involved.

Tapsel - it is not getting better either. I hope it gets sorted soon.

kidnykd - How I would love to have some snow right now!

Aria4 - sad to say, but Sydney is not getting back to normal. As a matter of fact most of the beaches and some suburbs are now on "lockdown".

Spitfire - unfortunately I agree with you!

Sorry to hear
about this Ca88andra and yes, I did see it on the news. The beauty of blogging is that I was looking forward to hearing your views on this. Thanks for sharing.

New to Australia, is it? It's happening everywhere these days, Ca88andra..
pretty scarey stuff, isn't it?

It's a shame...so much violence.

Cass

I saw this on the news, how is it today? Your right about not expecting this in Australia., but the world is changing very rapidly, It is like waking up one day and you innocence has been lost. I pray that this is a one time thing, that there is no room allowed for the breeding of hatred....and for a life guard, what the hell are they thinking? We like your life guards too. Be safe!

Cass,
You're right about the fact that tolerance begins at home. Unfortunately, it's everywhere and I don't ever see an end to it regardless of location on earth.

Ca88andra, This is awful.  I had not realized it was as bad as you describe here.    I really do hate to hear that.

Thanks for the information!
I hadn't heard of these riots, but then, we've had a lot of other stuff going on in my neck of the woods (like trying to dig out of the snow and such).

Ca88-Sidney is a beautiful city. When violence happens you have to ponder if it will spread. I hope everything will get back to normal.

My God, Cass!!
What is this world coming to??

kingmi - I mostly agree, but in some cases they do bring it on themselves. Middle Eastern men are just so.... ummm... aggressive and chauvanistic. I know that I'm generalising here, and I don't mean all of them. But there are a few...

ginnie - it is sad. I think youths with plenty of time on their hands and an overflow of testosterone have a lot to answer for!

jojo - I know what you mean. It seems like racism should be old news but its not.

Ca88i, I think the Middle Easterners are being unfairly stereotyped.

How horrible....
...I hadn't heard of this.  Just when we think we've come a long way from the bigotry of the past...very sad happenings.

Ca88andra
I had not heard about this yet. How terrible. It seems in this day and age we should be past all of this and yet it all seems to be getting worse.

Offbeats - I'm very far away from the riots - I'm in Melbourne and they are in Sydney. But one of my best friends lives in Sydney and she's staying far away from the beaches. I hate racism too and I just can't understand why people have to hate others.

Cass

I saw this on the news and was shocked! I sure hope you will stay away from the so called 'hot spots"!!

I don't understand why racism will not die!
