Hi Nanaroo
Yep, I think it's definitely all about the presentation.  Some people can pull it off.  The keep the inflammatory language toned down, or they do it with humour to take some of the sting out of it, especially if it's directed at a particular group, yet they still manage to get some complaining done, get something off their chest.  Readers will get their message without being turned off, often even the people being spoken of.  I've seen those kinds of posts get good results.  If it's done in a bitter, hostile or belittling way, they're more likely to slowly descend into the blog basement.  If it's somebody who's usually more upbeat but who's just having an off day, that's different.  Everyone's entitled to a couple of rip-snorters

I covered a similar topic in my journal blog yesterday. Every once in a while, complaining, ranting, telling a tale of woe is okay. It's the ones who do it day in and day out who run their readers away.

yeah...
It's true, I've seen some tear-jerking posts get tons of comments and responses too.  I think it's how you write it.  If you come off as whiny, then people won't visit as much.

It probably depends on the day. I've seen serious posts get tons of

comments, but the fun ones usually seem to get more.  But I usually write whatever I feel like writing at the time...
