Pretty much, jj. And I wholeheartedly agree with your opinion on cases
tried in the circus of the media.  And then there is the "jury of your peers" qualifier.  Not to be fascetious, but shouldn't a serial murderer by tried by a jury made up of other serial murderers?  I mean, a loving housewife/mother of five and a timid biology student at a community college don't seem to qualify as "peers" for such an individual.  But then, maybe if he is presumed innocent, everyone is his peer.  Still, you get my point, and we won't even get into education levels, I Q levels, and informed levels.

Saul,

I guess all anyone can do is have faith in the legal system.  I suspect that the story was a little distorted, but there isn't much doubt that the crime was commited by the party who was found guilty.  I'm willing to put faith in the judge and jury who were made pretty well informed by the courts.  I guess I let the somewhat strong feelings I have about the public deciding guilt or innocence on the basis of a media trial get me a little agitated.  I think the case that you discussed was pretty well decided.   jj

Unfortunately, jj, that's the only thing consistent in all the renditions
of Taylor's story (and the media's) -- oh, and that his buddy told him to 'suck his dick'.  The catalyst for Taylor's murderous action seems to be the sexual affront.  Who knows what really led up to his taking a tire iron to his buddy.  A psychiatrist would look at it as personal versus impersonal -- the tire iron being a more personal weapon because it is more immediate and an extension of the hand  (a gun, conversely, is an impersonal weapon which is generally used at a distance).

saul,
When I read a story like this I generally find it so full of holes that I don't believe any of it.  The media, without fail, screws things like this up so badly that it doesn't even resemble the facts of the case.  How many people would walk home, pick up a tire iron, and return with it?  A gun, perhaps; that is commonplace.  But a tire iron?  Why didn't he pick up something right there on site?  That hole in the story, by itself, makes me doubt the entire thing.   jj
