Go to Vegetarian v. Meat-Eating - The FactsAdd a commentGo to Let's Shoot the Shit

Yup! Me Too!

"I'd rather not know" is, in some ways, a quite bizarre reaction around the stuff we put into our bodies daily. On the other hand, the current paradigm is so strong, and people have so much invested in it (not thinking of money here) that it can just be too much to handle to read something like Fast Food Nation.

As our man Jack once said....

"YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!"

As for British water, I knew that, though I knew it ten years ago or more. It's probably going through more people by now! And we wonder why sales of bottled water have sky-rocketed!

Thanks for all your interest.

Don't ask, don't tell.

I've been a vegetarian my whole life - I've never eaten red meat.  A steak just might be the death of me!  But I have an exceptionally difficult time with the vegan route.  Probably because growing up I got most of my proteins and the like from dairy foods and eggs.  Not eating meat is easy for me, but the rest is a real bastard to give up!

As for "Fast Food Nation," an eye-opening book indeed!  I've tried to get a number of people to read it, but they just say they'd rather not know.  I just can't understand that.  I don't care how much they love their hamburgers!  Frankly, if there's shit in my food, I think I'd like to be informed of the matter!

I Find Vegan Tough, Too
My only suggestion is that, in the same way vegetarianism is our next evolutionary step (and it was clearly yours) then the way it manifests in each of us is an evolution, too. You've gone straight to it, and I'm impressed! I stopped red meat first, white meat within a year, and lastly fish, some years later. Perhaps at some point dairy will go, and I'll be another step towards vegan. I'm not saying I have this in mind, but when I gave up meat, I didn't have it in mind to give up fish. That idea evolved. Others may yet.

By the way, I do have yellow cowboy boots made from part of an egg. But they are a bit of a yoke. And do you prefer your leather products scrambled, or sunny-side up? Just wondering....

DamonLeigh
I became a vegetarian about 3 months ago and I've never looked back.  Why?  I guess it could be my connection to my pets, or maybe I was influenced by some of my new friends.  I think you are 100% correct about vegetarianism being the natural evolution of man.  Being vegan, however, is very tough for me.  To give up leather products and eggs is almost impossible.  Any suggestions?
