Hi Prof
When I was preparing students for the TOEFL exam up until a few years ago of all the people I taught my best student was a Filipino. She would hand in essays and compositions that were perfect. Needless to say, she got top marks on the vocabulary and reading comprehension parts. Welcome aboard!

Dear NY-S,  I feel happy that you can see that some blogers are sincere in sharing. That is what my main message to my fellow blogers. Share our thoughts, feelings, Opinion, Stories, Tales and talents and always give positive and golden remarks. I know that I have lost my publication rights when I have posted my short stories in BLOGIT.COM, but I am not after money when I joined this BLOGIT. I just want to share what little talent I have in illustration and story telling,  though English is not that easy for me.. I wlll come back to your site on the weekend...It is getting late here in Sydney... 9:00PM Thursday and I have to work tomorrow..... regards......Prof. (Just address me Prof. I am not a Professor in profession... at least not yet...

Right on!

We (writer's and humans in general) can only accomplish so much as indiviuals, alone. There's no way I could have gotten as far as I have without the loving support of family and friends (one-in-th-same, in my view). Where would I be without them? Hopelessly lost, at the very least!

And of course, I have always believed in "What goes around comes around!"

If we lost the human touch

we'd lose everything. I'm still one of those few who have faith in it

New Yorker,

I'll Google up an atlas.  I'm geographically challenged.

@word.smith
I agree 100%....if everyone can benefit from something without getting your toes stepped on, why not pass it along? When I started teaching English I received so much insight from others that I'm actually writing a little book about the dos and don'ts of teaching EFL in Italy. I hope it can help someone who's new on the job - and to the country.

@blanche

no we are way further south....just to give you an idea, NY is on the same latitude as Naples and I live in Sicily and not too far from Tunisia.....I never really had to put on heating except for really cold days, but now I have it on.

@ curator
I think it's just the general mentality....partly to do with "hang on to what you got" and partly due to envy. I'll give you an example: a now ex-friend of mine told me a few years ago that she had applied at the courthouse for a job as an official translator. She is perfectly bilingual in French and Italian. When I heard that I bolted and thought, hey, what a great idea! Mind you, I don't speak French, she doesn't speak English  so therefore there would not have been any competition in any way whatsoever between the both of us.So when I told her I'd do the same she put on a puss and almost regretted telling me about it......honestly, if your not treading on other people's toes and are sure of the ground you stand on, why be greedy?

New Yorker In Sicily,

It's getting nippy here, too. I don't know if we're in the same latitude you are, here in Seattle, but it is brisk, it got down to 40F (I can't think in Celsius) last night and we put the portable oil heater on.

It is good to see the abundance of leads here. I think Word.smith is right, no one person can fill all the available leads.

@Frankenkitty
oh they are good at negotiating taxes....and if they can get out of paying them ,even better! But now the laws are tougher and there are many more tax evasion crackdowns

@ Macolm

It's ridiculously, unseasonably cold here! Normally I woudn't use my duvet until January, but I've had to pull it out earlier than that. Crazy weather, considering we're only 45 minutes by plane from Tunisia.

I don't have so many leads on outlets to offer writers because
most of mine are due to building up individual contact with editors and identifying specific markets and that is something people need to do for themselves. I try to share that strategy with people and experiences with people to show what the possibilities are out there. I think it is great to share links to outlets if they have been tried and tested otherwise it can be like needle in a haystack. I agree that it is great to pass on ideas. What goes around comes around

I believe that we all have a responsibility
to help each other, not only in writing.  I've been helped by advice as well as leads to sites wanting submission. When you think about it, one person cannot provide all the material that a site needs, so there's really no need to be selfish.

Italians are like that with job leads??  I guess because they are so hard to come by, might that be it?

posted by curator on November 28, 2005 at 7:51 AM | link to this | reply

Things are like that in some industries here,
but you are right.  Blogit is a great place for new writers to get started.  I heard Italians negotiate their taxes when I took a business ethics course(I know, how useless), and I thought, we do the same thing here but we don't label it like that.  Take care

I'll happily
pass anything on that comes my way. Have you had the cold snap of weather there yet?
