The Pentagon...
...guy who came on Radio 4 about this wasn't exactly confessing, Dylan.

Boasting might have been a better term.

He was quite openly delighted about the actions taken with white phosphorous.

I've since heard a very weak arguement claiming that white phosphorous is an 'incendiary' device, and therefore not a 'chemical' weapon. But ask any schoolboy or girl what phosphorous is, they'll tell you it's a chemical.

Because it is.

Thanks for the comment.

That's right, Damon.

I say thank God we still live in a country where a military spokesman can confess to such an atrocity and go on living!

But that's why we have to get these morons out of office, so that these freedoms do not get undermined any further!

katray...
...when you're on such a slippery slope, the only way is down.

Until you guys chuck the Bush crew in jail and elect - and I do mean ELECT - some people with a bit of moral integrity and backbone, the world is set to continue suffering for the US foriegn policy that can currently be described in two words - Yeeee-Haaaa!!!

Thanks for reading.

I guess we shouldn't be surprised when the nukes start dropping

I didn't think it was possible to feel any more sickened and outraged by this war and it's atrocities; I was wrong.

Excellent post Damon.

Dylan...
...well, at least the story has broken on your side of the pond. That's something to be thankful for.

I'd prefer it not to be true, too, but when the Pentagon said Yup - that's what we do, then there's not much else to feel other than disgust.

Cheers!

As a wise man once said, in the fight between Good and Evil, it's always the People who die.

...we are destructive, and i reckon we've got about a decade or two to get over it, evolve beyond it, or we're screwed.

I do read glennb, too. Always good if, like you say, a bit rough!

Thanks for reading.

I found corroboration for this story on National Public Radio, which ran the BBC story.

I really didn't want to believe it, but it is evidently true. Terrible. Inexcusable.

And no longer surprising.

Many are the weapons of the mind to hide its nature.
Good post in that it uncovers how the door of the mind of leaders do swing on hinges that only elevate their political stance which is their own thinking, and has nothing to do with the people of this nation or any other.

Wouldn't it be fantastic
if all weapons of mass destruction/ weapons of war would be destroyed. Unfortunately some idiot would just invent new ones. Mankind in general is a very destructive species. By the way, check out Glennb's post (He's in my people list) he watches this all the time. He comes off a bit rough but I think he's got a good heart.

The Situation...
...moves on.

The Pentagon has admitted using white phosporous on fighters in Fallujah.

The Iraqi government has called for an enquiry.

There are questions being asked in the European parliament, and they are gearing up to call for an enquiry.

A human rights team has been sent to Fallujah to investigate.

There appears to be some wriggling going on in the US, saying that chemical weapons use against civilians is not OK, but against "insurgents" is is OK, despite the fact it's a chemical weapon and in direct contradiction to international conventions.

One of the big justifications used by Bush for the illegal invasion of Iraq was Saddam's use of chemical weapons. Now, his troops are doing the exact same thing.

Saddam was a torturer, too, and now America is following in his footsteps in this area, too.

Double standards are part of the American modus operandi in Iraq, and every one of these scandals that emerge is just one more PR victory that the US is handing to the insurgents.
