Frankenkitty - I would like to run overseas too, but in my case its children holding me back, not a zoo!

Pat - I'm always up for new challenges. I'm looking forward to what does happen in my workplace.

Medusa - well, I will know by the end of December one way or the other. There are all sorts of rumors floating about, guess I just have to be patient.

Blanche - yes, it could be an interesting time with a new boss. We shall wait and see.

Offbeats, there is more brewing at work than I knew when I last wrote this post, although I don't really know anything yet. But if they can offer me something I like, I will certainly think about it.

Maggie - thank you! Yes, I think children are important, so is personal time.

Damon - I'm a bit selfish - I value my personal time, even though I could do with more money.

malcolm - yes, I have to stay in the job a while longer and it does have benefits so I'm not totally unhappy. Hopefully I can work on the writing at the same time.

Original - I was thinking of the time spent with my son - time is one resource I can give him.

Overseas! I wish I could move
overseas.  You can't do that when you have a personal zoo like I have.  I always wanted to visit New Zealand. I thought it might be a place I could live. Take care and good luck with your five year plan. I'm no good with those

benefits -- mind stretching
for one, come with a challenge. If you have any interest at all in the job, apply for it. You already have a job, so there's nothing to lose, and you could just bank the additional pay so that at the end of your five-year plan, you'll have a financial cushion to help you float to the next good thing.  :)pat

Hi Ca88...Just weigh it all carefully....
although you seem so level-headed to me. Offbeats is right, in that management takes up loads of time and offers mucho stress. A new boss can be exciting or the pitts. Hope it works out great for you, whatever you decide.

Ca88andra,

Well, it will be different with a new boss. You're wise to know yourself well enough to know you don't want to take on the added stress and time of the position.  As always, it's a balancing act, and you only have so much time with your son before he's off on his own.

Ca88
I am sure you will decide what is best when you read the job description. You may want the position afterall. I can tell from my work history...management sucks. It devours your time and if you have family, it would definitely impact on the amount of time you spend with them..

Ca88andra, now that I'm done working for my lifetime.....

I can tell you that so long as you have any children at home, they are more important than all the money and prestige in the world.  I think you already know that, based on what you said.

Good luck and be happy.

I know what you mean
about being bored and the personal time v more professional status. I advocate hanging in there and earning and learning which you can then apply to your writing.

Well Done...
...for getting the time v. money equation sorted. It takes some people many lifetimes to reach that point.

Ca88....I bet you were thinking of all the time with your son that you
would be missing out on. Its nice that you have benefits that keep you there. Not everyone, me included, are so fortunate.

muser, much as I need more money, with it I could never buy more time! And I do value my own time a lot.

You are so right, Ca88...there comes the realization that often more
TIME is better than more MONEY!
