Great descriptiveness here. You found a lovely,
extraordinary way to say something that is typically said more ordinary: Orange and deep, dark blue, the sky was quite beautiful as it gradually allowed distant stars and then a bright moon to be painted on its canvas.

Thanks and I agree. My father who can barely see was glued to the tv this morning so that he could try and make out the images from the Cenotaph.

Truly a poignant day, especially for those of us born before the second world war.
It was a much bigger occasion then, and people had more respect for tradition as well. It woul dhave been unthinkable for anyone to scorn what the falln of the Great war had done ; and they'd probably have been lynched.
I posted my homage piece earlier, and I must find yours and read it.
