Joe, thank you. I sometimes wonder if these people simply hide behind one faith or the other. Do they really believe or just use faith as an excuse?

wordsmith, one of the problems is that the religious fanatics never seem to suffer as they can justify anything!

Great informative post, Cassie! I, like you, question any faith that produces the hatred that has been occuring around the world.

Cass,
You are right. The end result is always misery and suffering from the religious fanatics who are too far gone to see the devastation they wreak on the innocent.

Pat - thanks for thinking of me! It certainly is an interesting time here in Australia, especially if you live in Melbourne or Sydney. I can see that people are becoming suspicious of their neighbours, more so if their neighbours are Muslim. I hope that feeling doesn't escalate.

Frankenkitty - I haven't even had time to buy apples yet! lol. But I'm working on it. I think when the terrorists targeted Bali earlier on they did actually hurt people who are not comfortably off. They were after the tourists and westerners who frequent that country, but in the end more harm was done to the Balinese people who are not wealthy and cannot afford to lose the tourist dollar.

Meringue - you could be right in your comment, we could have created terrorists if they weren't already there, however the evidence is pointing to them being involved somehow.

well, it was scary, but
it would have been worse if the authorities hadn't scooped up the suspected terrorists. Good for the folks who interrupted the plans and grabbed the alleged bad guys before their probable targets became today's body count. Some statistics we can do without. I thought of you when I saw this news here in the USA, and like you I can't understand the impulse to blow up and destroy the peace of my neighbors... I hope the watchdogs keep working well and protecting... :)

Unfortunately, as the worlds population
swells, disasters affect more people at once in any given location. When will the world reach maximum capacity as far as population is concerned? Or will nature make sure we don't have to worry about it? Terrorists are a very small segment of the 6 billion plus people in the world, the problem with them is that they target normally "comfortable" people. What is terrorism to a bunch of people who grew up in mud huts and lost most of their family to AIDS or starvation? Seems like such a drop in the bucket. Anyway, take care and I hope you made your boys apple pie

and I agree with every word.Am glad if these are genuine terrorists, that they are caught. If they are not, we may just have created some.We love in difficult times, but as long as we have friends, and people who belief in peace and harmony, I guess we will be ok.

Just as ther eis a force for good, there is a force for evil. So often,
when bad things happen, God gets the bum rap. Just as guns don't kill, people do...religion is not bad, but the people within them sometimes are. One thing I always try to keep in perspective is that evil wants nothing more than to corrupt what is Good...what better way to do that than through the Church, the Synogogue, the Mosque?

We have been so fortunate up until now. My grandmother's life was much harder than mine has been. She was orphaned very young as her parent both died of illnesses quite young. She grew up through the depression and wars and she and my great aunty knew about the dangers of bird flu and were very worried about communism in Asia. She always held onto her purse very tightly when going down the street.
Suddenly with bird flu, natural disasters and threats of violence from within our own country I can see more through her eyes.
In my life as a child there were still terrible wars going on in Vietnam, Cambodia and many other countries but some how we were shielded from them. They all seemed very far away. They seem closer now.

The images of the planes flying into the twin towers in New York on 9-11
flashed through my mind's eye as I read your post. Made me shudder. Made me sick to my stomach. I don't think any of us who watched those events over and over on TV will become desensitized to it. You said it well; these terrorist groups have a hate for the western world.

You wrote this very well and your points strike an important note. Makes you wonder how a few people can take a religion and harbor such hatred and vitriol toward others.

I too have a hard time understanding how someone can want to destroy others as well as the city they grew up in. I'm glad they were captured before they could carry out their attacks.
