Yup, Taps, you're so right, which is one reason why I wrote all this.  I absolutely do not want to become insensitive to the grief and pain people experience.  I'm still in that role, even though I no longer work in ICU, I'm not the sick and suffering patient or the concerned family member . . . and yet it's so important to try and empathize with what they're experiencing!!

JanesOpinion,  the sad, sad thing is that this is not a unique tale.  Over and over again ER staff go through this and family members are stunned and full of grief.   You have written this horrible story with perfect precision.
