Hi Taps, how very sad.  And back then AIDS was such a mystery illness.  Now, thankfully, we have much tighter controls, but it could still happen. . . .

Several years ago, when my hemoglobin dropped into the toilet, my brother in law donated for me since we're the same blood type.  They told us that it would be safer to pull a unit from the general population than to accept a family member's donation.   I thought that was a bit suspect, particularly since I knew my BIL's history.  Anyway, glad your daughter is doing well.

Hi blackcat,
yes, I wish it wasn't true.  I'm hoping to view the documentary.

JanesOpinion,  In the 1980's I had a very sweet lady friend who had gall bladder surgery with complications that required a blood transfusion.  After she began to show many signs and symptoms of some strange illness, she was informed that the blood used was "tainted".  In less than five years after the surgery she died from AIDS.   So, of course a few years later when my daughter-in-law needed a transfusion, I was scared to death.  But, that turned out all right.
