Beg for mercy with the person you talk to at the traffic court. My husband did this and the attendent was willing to drop a part of his charges, and helped him work out a payment schedule (it was a pretty steep ticket considering we were broke at the time), and everything.

Does your state offer defensive driving school?
Or something similar - a driver training course for traffic violaters? I had a big speeding ticket a few months ago - 15 miles over the limit and thought my license would be yanked. I was offered this course, in exchange I had no points against my license and it also seemed to keep my insurance rates from rising. The cost wasn't bad, under 100 dollars, around 40 or 50 if memory serves and I was able to take it online, stretched over several hours. I did have to pay court costs and a reduced fine. I don't know if I would contest it, unless I was absolutely certain the cop was wrong and I could produce evidence to prove it. In my case, radar was used, so there was no doubt about my guilt. Hope this helps and good luck!

Dances

Grit your teeth, pay up, and forget it.

I recently got nicked by the Guardia Civil, here in Spain, for crossing a white line into a petrol station ; and there they were, waiting for mugs like me.

Complications! I had no papers in my van, 'cos it had just had its road test ; offence 2. My licences was lost in the post, offence 3. Could've cost me another 600 euros, but they were very good, and let me off with just (!) 150 euros.

And they reckon that the Guardias are a bad lot!

appeal the charge. Most times the cop doesn't show up at court and the
judge will reduce the charge for you.
