WriterofLight...
...I've had the dubious honour of witnessing American new media for many years, and I know how incredibly skewed much of it is. If you've never been exposed to news from beyond your borders, you can't be expected to understand this.

As for evidence of credibility, Cockburn has won many awards over the years but, more thatn that, he lives and works for much of his time in Baghdad.

And I'm not talking about the Green Zone, where all the so-called government are holed up. He lives out in the city. He runs risks every day, just to eat and move around.

This is very different from the (mainly American) journalists who do either remain in the Green Zone and regurgitate whatever they're told by others, or are "embedded" with military units, and are therefore massively constrained, not only on what they can report, but even on what they see and hear.

Cockburn is operating in Iraq like you might operate in Rome (only with his head down). The majority of journalists are operating like you would in Pyongyang - under constant escort and supervision, with tight controls over where you go, who you speak to, and what you say.

Hope that serves to clarify the issue.

Yes, that is interesting.

But what was more interesting was your claim that the commentary provided somehow differs from what is reported in the former mainstream news media. It is ludicrous to claim that the news media over here says anything in support of the Bush administration, as you imply it does. Another thought: What evidence do you provde that this guy is credible, and that reports that contradict him are not?

Nice to see someone prepared to take on the crowd. Good reporting, secondhand or otherwise.

Hey, poetluver!

Thanks for the message!

Wrong foot? Well, maybe. My only comment directed at you was, I think, a measured response (and a Welcome to you as well!) to your suggestion that my brains may fall out of my ass. On first reading, at least, that came across as a personal attack, rather than something that took issue with the writing - and I don't have a lot of time for that.

On the other hand, I've never blocked anyone and, in nearly two years here, I've taken on all-comers, and thoroughly enjoyed the interaction. I've learned a lot about world views that are entirely at odds with my own, too - itself a fascinating process.

So worry not about leaving robust criticism and alternative views. Just avoid getting personal.

As for the invite - thank you, but I had already visited several times. It's something I always do with a name I've not come across before. I don't have the time to read, blog and comment here as much as I'd like, but yes, I've read some of your poetry posts and enjoyed them. Next time, I'll leave a calling card!

Anyway, no such thing as a wrong foor with me. Let's keep it civil, keep it real, and keep the connection. We'll be hearing more from each other, I'm sure.

Cheers!

RE: wrong foot

Hey D! did we seem to get off on the wrong foot or something? granted this is a great piece of work here, however just because i may be harsh in critiqing any type of work at times (not just yours either) because i know what is "good", "bad" and "excellent"! if i seem to give to you what you percieve as harsh critisim or unkind words to your work, hey it is only meant to make you want to work that much harder. i am an auhor and have many published works, so when i said get a life off of the one article that i read, it was only to try and get you to want to write a little harder. this work here is fabulous! and that i mean! i invite you to come and read of world peace anathologies, and then i want you to read my work titled condemned and perhaps you will get a real understanding that we have more in common than you think.   maybe we can be friends after all!
