Joe, that's the general idea. I've got a list of necessities for the place I'm looking for and I just won't budge!

It's fortunate that you aren't going to be in a rush to find someplace new. That will allow you the opportunity to find exactly what you are looking for.

Wow Prof! What a long informative comment. Thank you. I've moved so many times I can't even count, but it has been about 6 times in the last 5 years so I'm pretty much a professional at it. Over here high school students get a huge discount if they buy a yearly ticket - its about $300 for a year of travel on all public transport. I used to have an electric blanket, but it stopped working so I threw it out.

Hello there.

Dear CA88,

I live in Sydney and I have moved five time in 17 years. The last time we moved as two years ago. We stayed in a four bedroom house with one toilet (that is the pain) OLD HOUSES with 4 bedrooms has only one toilet. Now a days, everyone in the house leaves at the same time, so make sure you have more than one throne.

When we moved out of that old house, it took me two weeks to pack up all our 17 years of accumulation. I had 68 half boxes (half of IBM BOX), four IBM BOX, lawn mower, pick and shovel, garden hose, pieces of wood, tools, etc. and etc. Two trips for the big truck.

I labeled all the boxes where it is going. Example Box 1 - TO KITCHEN, Box 2 - To Room 2, Box 3 to GARAGE, etc.and make sure you have a folder for the contents of the boxes. All clean clothes can be placed in a big black new garbage bin or just let them sit on a car (of a friend and sraight to the wardrobe. It is cheaper to hire a Professional Mover (ask at least 5 of them). When all boxes are sealed and tied with a disposal rope, make the appointment for the Truck. Make the appointment 10:00 AM, yes, ten  in morning because, try to bring out of the house anything you can so you don't spent much time for the TRUCK by trip or per hour.

When it comes to heating, it is cheaper to put electric blankets on all the beds. The double bed electric blanket in KMART is around 120 AUD and the single is around 30 AUD and you won't feel the electric bill.Yes, maybe 2 small gas heater will do the trick for the lounge and kitchen, but in the room, let them use electric blanket. That is what we are using.

I think living the near station is a very good idea. If the kids will have to take the bus, try to add it up and you will realise it is better to rent a bit more expensive place that pay for the bus. I live five minutes walk to the station and if I am running late it will only take me 3 minutes.

Well, so much for now. I just have to write you a longer comment because I realize there are very few Aussie in BLOGIT. I haven't discovered the others yet.

Happy house hunting and assign somebody to look after all the boxes, don't let it happen to you that somebody will just grab a box and walk away. One year ago, me and my brother were Sunday driving near Parramatta and we were surprised that a good piece of furniture (a handcurved high chair) was placed on the nature strip of the road, of course we know in Australia that if you put something on the nature strip by the road it free for all, so me and my brother parked and we walked casually towards the furniture. We were admiring and looking when a guy approached carrying another beautiful chair. Apparently he was moving house and he was alone. Poor bloke. If he did not appear in time.... who knows....

Well, so long for now. By the way I have been in Melbourne about nine or ten times.  Regards to your family and friends. Don't hesistate to drop me a line.  - Your friend  PROF-SUMAKEL33. (In Sydney, Aust.)
