Very interesting article. And, I must admit, I can see how you would become instantly livid after reading it. . , however several key pieces of information were not included in the story. . , such as "what were the additional reasons that the employer refused to comment about."

There's something weird about this one. It's too vague and one-sided to take at face value.

Just an opinion.

I know the ones you are talking about.  I know one that is an E-4 after a total of 27 years.  BELEIVE ME I know where you are coming from.  You could be very right about her...but the circumstances  are not good.  I know of a few wives who left their jobs last year when ours left because they were told they couldn't give them the time off.

GRRRRR that makes me so angry. How can someone be fired for seeing their beloved before he went overseas... I'm sure that the pr will kill the company and hopefully bring a lot of new job ops to the woman.

Im sure it was a good cry. Plus I don't mean too it just kind of happens. If it made you cry then it mustve been good cause that mean I truly touched your heart.

What is bad is she may be an awful worker. I read the article and her husband is a 40 some year old E-4. I know them guys and let me tell you what, they are some winners. I hope she isnt though or she will taint the name of our soldiers heros at home.

I honestly believe someone will offer her a job...there are alot of companines that truly DO support our troops and that also means support their families.

That makes two of us.  Michigan is considering passing legislation to also protect the soldiers families from losing their job for not showing up when the soldier leaves, is injured or worse.

I can paint a graphic picture of what I saw the night they left, I can tell you what I saw, about the cries and even screams from families and I can talk about the way my heart felt...but I can never put into words exactly how devastating it is at that moment.

While the SSRA does protect you from being unjustly let go, be wary...there are more loop hopes in that thing than you can begin to imagine.   I have seen many companies here in Michigan get away with it.

I would think if that had been the case they would have stated so in their own defense.  From all I have heard, not once did they say anything about poor performance from her.  My brother works for a company that is you miss 3 days even with a doctors note in the same YEAR they can fire you.

If they call that support I would have to see NON-support!  I could rant and rave on this forever, I am just so damn angry.  LOL!  I knew what you meant about the lame.

I think that story may make some of us realize how good some of our employers really are. No matter how much we hate there ass why we are there.

I hope they go under too! They should be ashamed of themselves!

how sad and inconsiderate of the company
I know the dread and fear I felt as my cousin left. I can only imagine the terror a wife or Mother goes through

Saddly the soldiers are protected but those clossest to us are not. The employers can be sued out the wazoo for firing one of us on active duty orders. But we can just call them ass holes if its one of our spouces or mothers or fathers.

How sad, MW, they could have had more consideration.....
I wonder if they were keeping a log on her and were just waiting for a reason to let her go.  It's just so hard to think that they would have fired her for that.  If so, they are nobody I would want to work for.

woops, that's a typo, I meant "too old and lame TO be recalled" to his old unit in 82nd Army Airborne.

MilitaryWife,
My boyfriend and I (who thank God is too old and lame not to be recalled to active duty, although he wanted to go in 2001), heard that story on the Jon Stewart show on Comedy Central (where we get a lot of our news). It's disgusting and the kicker was the PR statement: of course, we support our troops in every way possible.  Jon Stewart's line was, "Except by not firing their wives when they're being deployed."  Jerks.
