I take it you work for a
small business. Though benefits can be few in a small business, the casual work environment is a definite plus.

I have to agree, too...
but low wages don't make me excited about getting up in the morning. Poor management, though, is the worst...very frustrating indeed!

You've summed it all up in that last sentence.....
It's wonderful when you can interact with others in the workplace without animosity and knowing that everybody is part of the team. A good manager enhances all that, even if the situation isn't ideal.

kingmi - true! There are some very bad teachers out there. I think my son has some of them *sigh*. But good teachers, like good managers stay in your memory for a long time.

Ca88i, Same in teaching. Some teachers just wait for an opportunity to
exploit a mistake, to vindicate their feelings of the past. me I try to remain objective! Great post!

Temple, I think you've put your finger on it, the professional atmosphere. It certainly works for me. I also found it difficult to work for myself, not because I didn't want to do the work but because I also went off on more interesting tangents.

Ah, yes, working as a professional.
In my firm or the DA's office, that's how it was. Same with other jobs where you go into a more professional environment (meaning, all the jobs I had in earning degrees or that I got because of my degree(s) ). That's how it should be, you're treated like an adult. You know you have to get there at certain times, stay to get the work done, and no one harasses you. I missed that when I had to take bullshit jobs after the accident. I was lucky in most of those jobs with pretty good bosses and good environment, but lower wage jobs where people were treated like bad teenagers were horrible. I have a great boss now, me, but I'm a little to lax with my employee...not structured enough. :)
