It sure is easier to control the breathing than the stress! Finally, a way of coping with stress that does not require increasing your tolerance level for stress!

No Problem...
...Dylan!
At 5pm this morning I was talking T through it. She'd been awake for a couple of hours with her mind racing. Slowing her breathing slowed her mind and allowed her to drop off again.
I think it's called a parasympathetic reaction. If you're stressed, you breathe faster and shallower. Conversely, if you breahte deeper and slower, you feel less stressed - and it's way easier controlling your breathing than it is controlling the stress!
Cheers!

Glad you're feeling better.
Here, it's been raining and cold. I can barely get through four cigarettes before my fingers are too cold to hold my book and I have to go back inside.
I know, the cigarettes speed up the cooling of the hands by depriving them oxygen.
Which reminds me: I've been trying that breathing-from-the-stomach thing, and it seems to be working! I feel more energetic.
Also, I found it gave me something to concentrate on so I was prevented from thinking depressing thoughts and my mind prevented from racing. Thanks for the advice.

Ca88andra...
...no. I'll just turn the shed on it's roof. That should do the trick.
Don't talk to me about waiting for summer, cos that's just designed to wind me up. Here, we're waiting for winter, and the weathermen reckon we have a 2-in-3 chance of it being a really severe one.
Thanks for stopping by, m'dear!

Good for...
...the garden, Daves-ma-in-law? Our garden is now a mud-slide!
Thanks for the PC, mate!

So, did you start building an ark? Or hire a yacht? Its been raining here too, but not that much. However it started hailing the other night in the middle of a wild storm, which was pretty scary. I'm still waiting for summer...

And it's stopped raining down here too. Mind you, it was good for the garden, as my ma-in-law would say. |
