joe love:
this one left me sitting in the center of your sadness.  thank you for revealing the intensity with which you view life.   Not only the humor and love... but also the pain.  beautifully written.

I would have freaked out!

Ditto, what Pat_B said...
Great storytelling...and those poor birds!

We lost a birds' nest here too last week. Thankfully it was empty. It fell off the beam where it had sat through two hatchings that we had seen. It just blew off and blew away. Those birds would chase us away even when we walked nearby.

This tale made me grimace in pain. How distressing

Ah Joe
Say it ain't so! How sad and tragic and I know it had to be traumatic for you and Monster...

Awe Joe--this is heartbreaking!

Joe, a cautionary tale. Sometimes, your blogs take on a mythic significance which bloom out in the mind - metaphor for Blogit, parable for humanity - to draw such significance from the everyday and place it in the mind of a reader is a talent indeed. Great juxtaposition for the title. This post was a viewing the world in a grain of sand spell for me. Cheers.

Good GOd!
Please tell me ya'll somehow managed to save their little pinfeathered asses.

I am very much a bird person, and it's a wrench to hear a story start like this one!

Ow.....  I know you're an animal lover, so I get how that must have made you feel.  Hence your writing about it here, I guess, to try and expunge it.  Totally no one's fault.  It's similar to hitting an animal with your car on the highway.  A complete accident.  I came around a curve and hit two raccoons crossing the highway one night.  One was killed outright, but I had to end the other one's suffering quickly with my hands because it was dying anyway and it was in real pain.  Let's just say that stayed with me for a long time.  So I know how you feel.

OMG, Joe Love, my heart is breaking. For a second I thought you were
telling a story about some suicidal birds, but then I realized they were "parents" in search of their young.  Woe is me...I'm so sad.

What great storytelling about a very tragic thing. I remember running over a rabbit's nest with my lawnmower, too, and I felt really awful. But, rabbits weren't dive-bombing their nest to save their babies so it must have been worse for you.

Wow!  And you said I was morbid?!  How heartbreaking!  I am sorry, though, that you had to experience that, because, whether we want to or not, some things can never be forgotten.

This is so sad Joe... Your post just reminded of an incident where my friend accidentally ran over a bird with his vehicle... and the bird didn't die immediately.

Joe,

I just had to stop by when I heard all the ruckus.  I really felt bad at first, then I comforted myself by saying (real loud), ''What the hell is the matter with me?  Have I gone nuts?  Mothra was a bad news mama.  Godzilla's mama, I think.  Now here I am about to cry over the beast.  I think Blogit has actually caused my sanity to run for the cliffs with the lemmings.  I have unofficially lost it altogether!''

After telling myself off like that, in a very stern voice, I felt a lot better.  Muthra, after all, was one Big Fat Geek that stomped the hell out of Tokyo in unsynched, dubbed by monkies, English.  I was only lucky enough to see, before starting the uncheckable slide, that I was about to step on glare ice.  It was a touching piece, but luckily I was saved by my nerves of steel.   jj

Sorry you had to deal with that Joe...
I might have even felt sorry for the little buggers, and I don't much like birds...shit bombers they are...and well written as usual...peace...

Joe_Love,
I'm sorry this happened.  I know you felt bad.  I'd have felt sad too, but you did try to put the fire out to save them.

Oh, I know that had to be hard
to watch.  I hope your whole weekend wasn't that bad.  If it makes you feel any better, a nest under a pile of debris is really easy pickings for snakes.  Take care Joe Love

Joe_Love,
I went into your post excpecting satire and irony and caustic wit, but that was sad, the image of those birds trying to save their young and the babies in pain. I hope there's a bird heaven.

Great storytelling Joe,
Rising action, conflict and resolution, tragic ending. Almost makes you want to give up Kentucky Fried Chicken out of sympathy.

That is sad, J_L!!!
But, I also found it sad that a few posts down you were listening to Geri Halliwell!  (The HUMANITY!!)  I'm just kiddin', J_L!  I'm still a fan of the former Sexy/Ginger-Spice!  But...the post was sad...Maybe the gravitational pull of Venus made it worse than it should have been!!!  :-)  ~LB~ xoxo

Oh, Joe!

How heartbreaking!  But, as your post's title says, you are a Cityboy, so how could you know??  I wouldn't have even thought about it.  I hope you're not feeling too sad.  How about putting up an owl box to make amends?

Joe, you wrote this so very well. I felt I was there and it saddened me, not just for the birds but for you and monster as well.

Joe,

Those poor babies. I remember when we had brush fires like that on our farm and the poor little rabbits and birds would panic and so many would perish from their supposed safe homes. Bless you for trying to save them. Shadow

Joe LOve...What a tender tale......
I felt so badly for the mama and papa birds. And I felt terribly for you and the Monster. It wasn't your fault and I admire your heroics.....Well-written. I cna almost picture your idyllic property.

Great post........but so sad.

Ah, Joe. I hate when that happens...

If it isn't birds, it's the rabbits that nest in brush to be burnt. I never realize until it is too late and wind up feeling like hell inside all day.

You write well, Joe. Enjoying your posts.

Take care.

Ohh, chilling post Joe Love
Those poor creatures. What heroic instinct; I hope I would make the same effort. This is a bit of a departure from your usual, yet still very enjoyable reading.
