Good to see you back here again, UnidentifiedHacker.   It has seemed like a long time since you wrote last.

I've done some work like that, not much.
I used to record people's phone trees...you know, for jumping out of your skin, press 1.....for killing this phone tree, press 2.....but it was a fluke I got through a temp agency once.  Then they would call me periodically after without the agency.  It was cool because I got paid $10 an hour for essentiall 10 minutes work.  But, outside of Los Angeles or New York, it's really hard to find....and you have to usually have to even work as an actor, not just as a narrator.  Recording books sounds good, but I don't know where you'd get that.  The Blue Mountain thing doesn't work like something you submit and get paid just like that.  We talked about it in IM once, but I'll email you the rest.  I'm glad to see you posting. :)  I was worried about you.

Ok, I don't know what's available in your area but sometimes there are places that will record people reading books so that blind people can have access to them. Where I live it is at a facility for people who are learning how to live with blindness. So diabetic associations could probably put you in contact with someone.  It might be just a volunteer thing but maybe not and could pay the bills for awhile.

Unid'd Hacker,

Well, hello there.  I have been wondering about you.  BTW, it is interesting how the change of Blogit identity automatically changes my Blogid on all the "Favorites" and "Comments" lnked in the past.  I am the ex-MaryX, now BlancheDubois. I'm back from California and other parts.  Remember our last conversation when I called last month about using your doctor, your insurance and whatever else you need?

UH,  I admire your grit and, believe me, I understand the desire to autonomous and self-sufficient.  I have been there, done that, and drove myself even crazier than I already was trying to stay "Out of the System" and off the dole, and I have been through the placement part of the system.    If you need to talk to your doctor about applying for SSDI, then NOBODY needs it or deserves it more than you.  That's what the system is there, don't wait till you crack up tryiing to stay strong.  Take the help, kiddo, then worry about the rest of your life.  ps, I'll call you tomorrow. I've got to get dinner on.

Factor

I'm not sure I could keep a straight face while doing the 1-900 number thing. =P

I'd very much love to write a book, but right now I'm not quite able to. I need to get myself more organized, get my thought process back under control.

Hacker! Good to see you posting!

You are too much...after all you have been, and are, going through, you worry about those who are worse off than you are and you don't want to take your parents' support...

I still think you should write a book. You can support yourself by working parttime while you work on it with Reni's 900 number idea....  Accept help where it is given freely! Someday perhaps you will be in a position to help someone else and you will remember how others helped you.

Take care.

Nah, not a way dumb question. I did go to a meeting that my healthcare provider (Kaiser) sets up for job placement and such, but it just didn't feel right. I know it's stupid of me and I should just ask them for help, but I think the people there need the help more than I do, and the jobs are limited. I don't like the idea of taking a job from someone who is worse off than me in the illness department. I'm not better than any of them, just in a different state of need.

Temp agencies, now that I didn't think about. That's a good idea. And I like the Blue Mountain idea, although I can't find on their page where you can submit for payment. Thanks for the advice =)

Uni

so glad to see you around. I was getting worried.  This is probably a way dumb question but I know there are places that help people who have physical handicaps find employment...isn't there some out there for you as well?

Hey there...it seems that you always post a day after you've been on

my mind for a while.  I get to wondering how you are and then the next day you post.  I'm glad to read an update.  Sorry things are so rough right now.

Here are some ideas for some jobs you might consider.  How about selling ad space for a radio, newspaper or magazine?  Maybe get with a temp agency for a while until you get a job.  Hire a headhunter to find you a job.  Since you enjoy writing poetry, Blue Mountain pays $300 a wack per poem.  Okay, that's my two cents.  Take care of yourself.

You could open up your own male 1-900 line... lol

Then again, it WOULD pay good money!

Seriously, take care.  You seem like a decent guy with a good outlook on it all.  I'm sure it will work out.  And take your parents' help!  Believe me, that's what they are there for!  They love you and want to help you.  Later, when you can, pay them back.
