- Go to Saddam Finally Brought to Trial
Welcome, inkedforlife and gracefulwitch1!
Happy Halloween, graceful! The issue is that all our people in Iraq are seeing is empty warehouses. What was in them? I hope we see them as well - disassembled, inert, whatever the proper terminology is, and anyone who has them imprisoned or dead.
inked, you're right, but it is a goal of the war fulfilled. Thank you for praying, my friend; I am with you in doing so.
xenox, could it be that Iraq has been judged for its hypocrisy, such as that of the dictator embezzling hundreds of millions of dollars for his personal fortune as his country rots?
damon, would you mind telling us all why those sanctions were imposed? And how about justifiying your claim of civilian deaths?

Saddam
Being brought to "justice" is not a sign of the ending or of the winning of the war in Iraq. If anything this war will get a hell of a lot worse when the Saddam shit really starts hitting the fan. I pray for my brothers thats gonna be put in harms way while they bring this man to trial.

right Damon
Saddam was our friend for a long time and all these "crimes against humanity" we ignored mainly because he fought Iran, whom we made into an enemy by supporting the Shah, whose atrocities equalled or surpassed Saddam's.
We are a hypocritical nation. Writer: you do know that God reserves judgement for a "hypocritical nation".

Oooohhh...
...you are struggling here, aren't you?
First, Kuwait. I, for one, was in support of that response to Saddam's illegal invasion of a sovereign nation. That was a completely different scenario to the illegal invasion of a sovereign state (Iraq) by the US and others who, quite frankly, should know a whole lot better.
"How about the millions dead and wounded in Saddam's war with Iran?" Ah yes - that'll be the war in which Iraq was armed and funded by...er...the USA! I'd be quite careful about raising this one, if I were you!
But if you do want to talk numbers...
How about the 500,000 children, and the 500,000 adults, who died in Iraq as a result of Western-imposed sanctions?
How about the 30,000 - 100,000 civilians who have died so far in Bush's illegal war?
Oh, and when you say, "you are concerned about only 148 executed" you are missing the point. Again. We're not only concerned about the 148 - far from it. I was simply pointing out the inaccuracy in your post. Saddam is being tried for the execution of these 148 people and not, as you wrongly state, for his 'crimes against humanity'.
It is the court that is "only" concerned about these people, not us.

Okay, let's talk numbers . . .
How about the millions dead and wounded in Saddam's war with Iran? How about the hundreds of thousands of his people that he gassed, tortured, raped and executed? How about the thousands killed and maimed by terrorists he sheltered and bankrolled? How about the billions and billions of dollars embezzled in the oil for food scandal, the worst financial scandal in history? (For that matter, how about what would have happened to the global economy had his invasion of Kuwait gone unchallenged?) I guess none of that matters to you two since you are concerned about only 148 executed.

Actually...
...you're a bit short on facts here.
He is not "facing justice for his crimes against humanity".
He is actually being charged with ordering the execution of 148 men in a particular village after a failed assassination attempt was traced back there.
It's 148 lives, but it's hardly a crime against humanity. Especially not when it's set against the 30,000-100,000 Iraqi civilians killed in the current illegal adventure; the 500,000 - 1 million killed as a result of Western sanctions; and not forgetting the almost-2,000 US soldiers killed as a direct result of the lies and spin emenating from the White House. WMDs, 45 minutes, clear and iminent danger - you resmember all that bullshit, surely?
Funnily enough, 148 is about the same number of executions Bush ordered even before he became "president". And we have to assume that the botched assassination attempt wasn't one the US was behind (like Gulf War I), otherwise that would make the US partially responsible.
