...are there no local bands playing around your neck of the woods? They don't have to be superstars to give you a good night out.
And just to be clear - none of the gigs i went to were heavy metal. Dio is rock. Goldfrapp is cabaret / trip hop. And Alabamba 3 are "sweet pretty country acid house music".

Sounds like you had some fun times. Not my style, but I think at the moment if someone offered to take me to a heavy metal gig, I would probably go! I'm getting starved for live entertainment.
