Simply hilarious!! I can relate to this as we have recently lost our brewologist at our office! It was such a treat to have her making the coffee--and, she never complained about the mundane task. Just like you, there was a certain amount that she placed in the basket that was "just right", and even though she tells us how much it is, we never seem to get it right. Wonderful story!

Coffee Woes
Lazy buttnips!  Reminds me of a story (oh, hear I go again). Years ago, when I returned from a six-month sojourn to that pleasure land known as the Persian Gulf (I was on an aircraft carrier), we were relieved for so many reasons, one of which (certainly not the most important one!) was that we would finally be able to get good cups of coffee.  For some reason, the coffee during the cruise made by our junior folk tasted like (and I'll use the street vernacular) ass.  We may have found the reason-one month after we got back, we found a bottle of fox urine behind the pot.  Moral to the story-be very careful when you EXPECT others to make your coffee for you.  In addition to Sweet N Low, you may get woodland creature pee.

I'v stopped drinking coffee
and since started drinking 1 cup of tea (less calories), also better for you. While you don't get the kick in the pants like you did when you chug down a cold cup of instant espresso, its still nice. I always hate having to flick out the grains from inbetween my teeth with my toungue...

I don't know why, but your blog
reminded me of this one job I had years ago working at a gift store. My boss wanted to fire this old lady we had working for us because she kept breaking stuff and always screwed up the inventory. I hated to see her go because she always made the best coffee. I told my boss this, and my boss said, "She may make good coffee but what is her problem? She pours half the water on the floor. Then when the coffee's done, there's maybe two cups to drink! She drinks the coffee herself and then is so jittery all day she breaks everything in the store!"
