- Go to SHAME ON YOU, AMERICA!
You make a fair case up to this point:
The reports of looting and shooting were grossly overstated. Some of them turned out to be outright false. In the ensuing aftermath, it became clear that the greatest failures were at the governmental level, from city to national.
If the victims of the earthquake in South Asia pull together and teach us a few lessons about healthy society, I'll welcome that. But nothing will stop Mr. Bush preaching America's virtues.
For him, it's a religious thing. Facts can't penetrate it, because his theology isn't based on facts (at least not the kind that can be, you know, shown by evidence). His is a faith-based presidency. The thing is, he didn't promise any different.
Said he: "I've heard the call. I believe God wants me to run for president."
And the people shuddered and ran for shelter.

Damonleigh,
You said it. It couldn't have been said better. However, it appears as though you are speaking to all Americans. I believe most of us feel just as you do, so maybe this blog should have been written to Bush and his cronies, and all those responsible for pussyfooting around when our own people needed so much so badly and so quickly, and to those to whom power and greed are the gods which they pray to.
Thanks for saying what needed to be said.
