Hi DebbieD

You neglected to mention the married women who fared quite well with .26% experiencing violence.  I think cohabitating women face many of the same risks as do lesbian women.  Which, I would imagine, is why many people are attempting to legalize homosexual marriage . . . except that as I've demonstrated with other studies (Sweden, the Netherlands) a slim percentage of homosexuals actually get married EVEN WHEN IT'S LEGAL.  Their goal, ultimately, isn't marriage.

I obviously need to review that source on the National violence against women survey. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.  I was working from a summary of the data, not the actual study. Shame on me (and thanks for keeping me on the straight and narrow -- no pun intended!).

Regarding your question as to whether or not I mentioned studies about children being better off with heterosexual parents, it wasn't me although that's certainly my assumption!  I do know (check out the link I gave at the end of this blog) that the studies that have been conducted on children with gay parents have not all been done using the scientific methodology.

Jane, Jane, Jane

My but it is getting a little thick in here.

Thirty-nine percent of lesbian women reported rape, physical assault or stalking by a partner at some point during their lifetime (although a different study gave an even higher percentage of violence), compared with 21.7% of opposite sex cohabiting.

What you seem to miss is the reference to '...during their lifetime.'  This means many current lesbians were raped at one point in their life just like 21.7% of straight women.  So, that isn't relative to the argument since the study says nothing about this rape being committed by a 'cohabitant or same sex partner'.

I guess you also missed this part:  93% of a the women who were raped were assaulted by a male while 11% were assaulted by a female.  Hmmm.  Seems like there may be more to the story than your post is indicating.

So what does this prove, men are more prone to violence than women.  I think most people already know that.

So then, should gay people be allowed to parents?  If we use your logic it appears that only 7% of all men should be allowed to be parents whether they are straight or gay.  Shouldn't we first consider denying parenting rights to men if it is domestic violence we're concerned about.

Was it you or nopeace who mentioned '...studies have shown that children raised in same sex parent households'  are not better off than those in the alternative.  If so can you point me to that study.  I would really like to read it.
