While you may be right, I am reminded of the old experiment on communication. A group of 12 people are brought into a room and sit in a circle. They are told that critical information is going to be shared with them. One person is given the information orally, and is told that it needs to be spread to the other 11 one by one. The person is told that the information is vital to the survival of the group and that the information MUST be passed on exactly as it was told. If any person gets wrong information, the group will suffer the consequences (the consequences are different, depending on the group used for the experiment - sometimes it is that all will be fired. Sometimes it is that one of them will be fired, etc.). In each and every experiment completed (and replicated many times since) the message was NEVER accurately shared through the group. The last one to get the information NEVER got the exact message that the first person got. This is because language and communication is so difficult for us. Each of us interprets each word just a shade differently, hence the inherent problems in communicating. It was no different a few thousand years ago.

you also have to consider that scribes were few and far between, and much written language was obsolete. They were primarily an oral culture, handing stories down from generation to generation. If these people knew that this was the inspired word of God, that they would forget details and leave things out? I don't think so at all. I think they would have been very careful to remember this and that...names and everything.
