Thanks Tapsel.

I've lost way too much time already. Can't afford to lose any more time.

Genius,

I prefer to approach problems by listing the pros and cons. Hopefully, that way I catch everything. When I allow my mind to wander too much, that's when the worrying starts.

Good post, word.smith.   Worry drags people down and keeps them from their full potential.  Too much time wasted on the "what if's".

Ginnie,

Thanks. One day at a time, learning our lessons as we go is how we climb those mountains.

Fiona,

Hmmm, instead of rehashing over and over in our minds the things that are past. I'm sure it would be better for us to think how things can be done differently in the future and move on.  When promotions come, it is then that life becomes even more complicated.

plan for the worst, hope for the best
If you never worried about things, especially things like work and finance, you'd probably be accused of not caring. But the more you worry, the more likely it is you're going to avoid some horrible pitfall.

Strat, it's interesting that your comments and Joe's
are positioned as they are - I'll take that to mean that finding the happy medium is the answer.

True word!!
And I don't want to be a worrier..I'm getting better..not quite where I'd like to be yet.  Good luck to you too!

Joe,

Good point....I suppose that at some point in worrying, there comes a time when some sort of action must be taken to prevent disaster.  Is that proof them than worry can be a good thing?  Within reason, of course.

Mystic,

Yes, they do much to age us. Habits can be changed, but it takes practise and real discipline to decide to stop worrying once I recognize that I'm worrying,

Amen to that Sassy,
and you'd think we'd learn from those mistakes.

How true,
I sometimes actually literally worry myself sick and as you say, it very seldom happens. I think we do spend to much time worrying about what was done. (It's happened, can't change it.)I also find we tend to think, "When I get promoted", my life will magically come right. Amazing how it doesn't, hey?

The rocking chair is right on!
I am afraid I'm the opposite. I don't worry about anything. Then I am surprised all to heck when something I should have given a little more attention to jumps up and bites me in the backside!

There's a happy medium there somewhere for us, Word!

posted by strat on September 27, 2005 at 5:47 AM | link to this | reply

I love your rocking chair analogy!
And, it's very true.

But, you know word. ., think about this.

You said 99% of the things you worry about didn't occur. Well. ., I wonder what percentage of these things didn't happen because you paid attention to them (worried about them).

Just a thought.

Worrying is my greatest hindrance ....
What's really bad is worry and stress really age people, like a thief or time bandit. I wish I could stop and have more faith. It's a real challenge.

That is for sure
I can't think of how many times I have worried needlessly. Such a waste of good emotions that could have better been used in a more positive, productive manner.

Katray,

You're welcome. It's so true that worrying unnecessarily can lead to depression. Ever get depressed and not know exactly what it is you're depressed about? It's happened to me. These things do get away if we allow them.

Ginnie,

My husband used to say of my mother that she got worried if she didn't have anything to worry about.  But isn't it strange that so many people worry about things they can do absolutely nothing about? We gotta get a grip! The way  I look at it is that as long as you have things under control then there is no need to worry about them.

*Sigh* I can relate Word
And excessive worry can lead to anxiety or depression. Best to control it before it controls you. I battle with unnecessary worry too - Thanks for the helpful post and great quote.

I'm trying not to be a worrier word...
...but the sad apart about this is I'm worrying about not worrying about things!! I think I should be committed!

Flame-thrower,
Yes, it will be interesting to see the results.

No problem Telly,

As we both know from experience, worrying is one of those things that's so easy to take root in our lives and so hard to root out. Keeping it to a manageable level is key. I hope to get to the point where I refuse to do it.

Lib, I was amazed at how true it is when I first came across it.
I still need to remind myself of it every so often.

Bright,

I've been trying to cut worry out of my life for some time. It's one of those non-productive activities that I'm trying to rid my life of.

It is quite gratifying to read your very reflective comments. You are right to say that, it now remain to see what effects will debt cancellation have on the beneficiaries. Thank you and apologies for replying late.

Thank you for the very kind mention. Yeah, I tend to worry and fret all the time too, and while I don't have it completely under control (and I know it never will be), I hope to have it down to where I can cope with it. hang in there.

Trust me, I know what I'm talking about as it pertains to that quote.  Been there and done that too often to count and all for nothing.

MerryAnne, too true.

Before you know it, they will be too busy to have time for you.  So right now is the best time. Can't spend that worrying now can we?

word.smith.....
Hi.. I enjoyed reading this post and recognize that it holds a great amount of truth.. I try to look ahead with optamisim and try not to worry until it becomes nessasary. I was a worrier also and as you say most of the time it is all for nothing. I liked the quote that you left us with! Flowers

I am a worrier too Word,
and I also spend far too much time beating myself up over things that I did in the past that I regret. However I am learning to enjoy the present, because of my girls. If I don't take the time to enjoy them now, they won't have time for me to do it later.
