perhaps you're right.
if it happens to me, i'd probably sulk for a whole night. When I sulk, I go to the TV room, get a bottle of beer and watch someone get pummeled on WWF.

Friar__Tuck -- what can you do but laugh?

Ultimately the software I purchased was basically useless for all but stopping the pop ups it was meant for. It neither affected my computer nor helped matters in any meaningful way. A friend of mine who actually knew what he was doing (as opposed to my knowledge at the time) came in and used Trend Micro's Housecall to fix things up, then installed an effective firewall, which I used until I upgraded my computer.

gomedome,

you must have a big amount of good humor.  I won't think of it as hilarious.  I hope nothing bad happened to your computer.  The last time my computer crashed, it was due to a barrage of popups.

Friar__Tuck -- I hate to admit that I got burned by this type of scam 3
years ago when I first started going online. My computer began doing all sorts of strange things with numerous popup windows. An email came a few days later with pictures of those very same popup windows and a money back guarantee to rid them from my computer forever. I couldn't get my credit card out of my pocket fast enough to make the $25 purchase....a short while later I happened upon an article much as the link you have provided, chronicling how this company planted the spyware/adware and then went around offering to clean it up for people. I'm still trying to get the fish hook out of my mouth. Hilarious when you think about it.
