- Go to USA RIP
As with everything, RavenDarke, political entities and governmental bodies
are cyclical; they wax, they wane. The United States reached its height of ascendency somewhere between the late 50s and the late 80s (the time is debatable, pre-VietNam, first moon landing, fall of the Berlin Wall), and has been on the descendant in the past decade at least. China and the European Union are on the ascendant. I dare say there will be others. And police state tactics such as doublespeak, the Patriot Act, unnecessary foreign wars to divert public attention from domestic issues, add to the decline, not to mention being harbingers of a decline. Good post.

Empires and other curiosities
DamonLeigh, exactly, Rome never wanted to face the decline. And another common feature of an empore slipping into decay is the use of police state appartus to maintain control. Damn I need to write that book *smirk* maybe I will go to Scotland to write this time. Thanks for reading :-)

All Empires...
...through history see themselves as invincible at the height of their power.
And all empires whither and die eventually.
